I have a book with the bookplate of a William Hopkins pasted to the rear of the title page. The book is ‘The Dramatic Works of Sir Richard Steele.’ The bookplate is of an heraldic coat of arms similar to the ones on this site. It has three pistols pointing towards 10am, chevron and roses, and a flaming castle as the crest. The name William Hopkins is along the base of the bookplate, and it would appear to have been drawn by a man named Jas. Kirk. If I had to guess I would say that the bookplate is close in date to the book itself, but would be delighted to receive more information. I have had great fun and pleasure researching the bookplate and finding that the book was once owned by a descendant of one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact. I would be happy to supply an image of the bookplate if it helps your Hopkins Quest.

I would be interested in anything you have in addition to the dates etc of the book and plate. Are you a Hopkins Descendant? Sounds like a great piece to have and possibly a part of my puzzle!

It is possible, have you taken any DNA testing or have any genealogy data?

Hey there, Mike. My father and I are the last male Hopkins of our line. I found myself here looking up the family crest – hadn’t seen the one on your site before now. We hail from New Jersey/Eastern PA, so not too far off. If you’d be interested in getting in touch, feel free to shoot me an email.
